The voronoi pattern was the inspiration for this project. It is a naturally occurring pattern found in onion skins, tree canopies, and giraffe’s coats.

Material sourcing
I knew that this project would be material-intensive because of the CNC requirements. To address this, I used only scrap wood when building

Wood prep
To make one continuous design, I glued many sheets of scrap plywood together to maximize material surface area

CNC Router
Utilizing the CNC, the Voronoi pattern was cut out in less than an hour, and was then sanded and finished

Base
The light-bulb is inserted through the top of the lamp and rests on base stand. The three risers allow the cord to lay in any direction

Lamp frame
The plywood frame was cut by the CNC router and sanded by hand. The wood was finished with a Varathane red mahogany wood stain

The removable top also functions as a stand to place books, water bottles, or cups of tea
