PERSONAL PROJECT - CLIENT-LED SOFTGOODS/ PACK DESIGN

A versatile storage pack that transitions from bike to wheelchair, designed for a local adaptive rider

The client (left)

  • Topher is an adaptive mountain biker who lives in Boulder, Co. He works for Boulder Country Open Space & Mountain Parks, and riders all around the state (and world) for both work and fun.

  • When I met Topher, his only storage was in his back panniers. This is a difficult spot for any rider (especially those with limited hand dexterity) to reach for snack, tools, and water.

  • On top of his own adventure riding, Topher also leads other adaptive athletes; so he needs storage space for gear and tools.

Topher also asked if the bag could accommodate his ExtremeMist, a portable misting device which keeps him hydrated and cool on the trails.

How might I design a versatile bike bag that can attach to both a hand-pedal bike and a wheelchair and carry Topher’s ExtremeMist?

  • The bold red and turquoise create a whimsical, youthful feeling of wonder and play

  • Incorporate play and personality into the bag

  • Playful, dynamic, inspiring
